Ten states given permission to leave a few children behind

school-fail

President Barack Obama gave ten states given permission to leave a few children behind today because actually requiring teachers to get results is asking too much.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says his decision to free 10 states from the No Child Left Behind education law will give the flexibility they need to set high standards for students and hold schools accountable.

Obama spoke Thursday at the White House. He says he's giving 10 states waivers from the strict and sweeping requirements. The states are getting leeway in exchange for promises to improve the way schools teach and evaluate students.

  1. *shrug* chicken feed. The governments job[just to be over simplified] is to deliver the mail, maintain the infrastructure and provide for defense. THAT's It!

So the fact he's giving states 'waivers' on legislation that never should have been passed in the first goddamn place means absolutely nothing. Outside of the fact it's just yet more proof he can't resist sticking his nose and the governments, where it doesn't belong. Which isn't news to anyone who's been paying attention the last several years.

  2. If you are saying education should be left completely to the states, I understand. However, the Federal Government now sends billions of our tax dollars to states for education and that isn't going to stop anytime in the near future. I think is reasonable to have goals and consequences attached to that money. We have a right to expect results for our tax dollars. I have goals and consequences where I work.

  3. Howard....Yes it is a state issue. No the feds shouldn't be sending states money for it...and the current condition of the education system and the kids coming out of that system lacking ANYTHING resembling a proper education system is a result of 3 things. Unions, Federal Government interference...and parents. Hmmm I could add a 4th to that I suppose...the rise of liberalism.

  4. BTW yes...everything has consequences but the Kids aren't taught that nowadays. Everyone is equal..even if they're not. Sigh.

Something I wrote an posted originally back in 07 elsenet and then reposted to 2x4 when I started it. I might change a few things the original writer of the nightmare speech wrote, but that's only because there's new nightmares to add to it.
