Parvovirus is a deadly dog disease.

Three dogs residing at the Occupy SF encampment by The Embarcadero have tested positive for a highly contagious disease called the parvovirus, according to the San Francisco Examiner.
The San Francisco SPCA and city Animal Care and Control visited the camp on Monday to offer free veterinary service to the dozens of dogs at the camp, according to the newspaper. Some dog owners took their pooches to the makeshift vet; others accused officials of spreading bad publicity.
Parvovirus results in vomiting and bloody diarrhea, according to the newspaper.
The parvovirus isn’t the only affliction to have befallen dogs at the camp, the SPCA says — kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory illness, is likely flourishing as well.

My mom works as a vet tech. IIRC about this time last year there was a highly virulent, med resistant strain of the parvo virus making the rounds. I sometimes go in with my mom on her days off, when it's like a holiday weekend, and they happen to have a dog boarded in the kennel in the back. It's a really sad thing to see a pup with parvo or any disease for that matter. Because people are fucking STUPID and won't take the same amount of care with their pets as they do with themselves. So many things that could be avoided. Rabies, kennel cough, parvo, heartworm, Etc. Shelters overrun because people refuse to spend the money to get their pets spayed or neutered. All this..because I've witnessed it..just makes me VERY angry.
