Progressives are foaming at the mouth in anger over the debt limit compromise

I personally don't think the debt ceiling compromise was a great deal for Republicans. The budget cuts are in the future and most likely will never take place based on history. It was a moral victory by the Tea party to change Washington's norm from automatic debt ceiling increases to discussions about spending cuts. Progressives haven't taken the change well.

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.)-

Meanwhile, Raul Grijalva, D-AZ, was less incredulous than furious. "This deal trades people's livelihoods for the votes of a few unappeasable right-wing radicals, and I will not support it," he said.  "The Democratic Party, no less than the Republican Party, is at a very serious crossroads at this moment.... We have given much and received nothing in return. The lesson today is that Republicans can hold their breath long enough to get what they want."

MoveOn.org came out in opposition, and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee said 200,000 Obama 2008 supporters might withhold their support this time in protest.

CBC Chairman Rep. Emanuel Cleaver-

"If I were a Republican, this is a night to party," Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a Missouri Democrat who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus, told MSNBC Sunday night.
