Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) votes against DADT and apologizes for his vote

It sounds like newly elected Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is in favor of DADT, but just not now. Could the fact he faces voters again in 2012 have anything to do with his sense of timing? Manchin won a special election to fill deceased Sen. Robert Byrd's seat.

(The Hill)- Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) appeared to take a stand on the repeal of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” Thursday, becoming the only Senate Democrat to vote against a procedural motion to move the measure forward.

But after the vote, Manchin blasted out a statement apologizing to anyone angered by his vote and said he believed the policy “probably should be repealed in the near future.”

While I believe the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy will be repealed someday, and probably should be repealed in the near future, I do not support its repeal at this time,” Manchin said in the statement. “I truly understand that my position will anger those who believe repeal should happen now and for that I sincerely apologize.

Nice ability to talk out of both sides of his mouth.

From a combat veteran that has served his country and state honorably, I am proud to say that you did the right thing Senator Manchin. The fact is the chiefs of the Army, Marine Corps and Air Force do not support an immediate repeal of DADT also, 58% of troops polled said repealing DADT would hurt morale and would negatively affect their team's ability to work together. Many combat soldiers said they would not be able to trust an openly gay colleague. Is that the type of added stress gay rights groups want to put on our troops in combat just to force their agenda on the heterosexuals? The DADT policy simply means the military won’t ask your sexual orientation and that troops won’t tell their sexual orientation. That’s it...it doesn’t say you can’t serve. What it says is that you can’t go around holding hands after formation or kissing in the chow line but that’s not good enough for homosexuals is it Joe? They have to flaunt their sexually deviant behavior for all to see. Bottom line is that God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve! What they do behind closed doors is their business but the homosexual community needs to listen to the MAJORITY of the people in this great nation and this great state when WE say leave DADT the way it is and keep your twisted, deviant behavior to yourselves.
