I took some liberty with the headline. It should have said "Helen Thomas retires after White House kicks her from press pool" or " Helen Thomas retires after Hearst Corporation fires her", but neither of those things happened. Instead, she decided on her own to announce her retirement.
Her decision came after her controversial comments about Israel and the Palestinians were captured on videotape and widely disseminated on the Internet.
Thomas later issued a statement: ``I deeply regret my comments...
