Obama wants to restart the military tribunals he criticized Bush for

Candidate Barack Obama said he wanted to have U.S. trials for prosecuting Guantánamo detainees. On his first day in office President Obama suspended those trials. Now that he has had time to think about it, he wants to revive the military commissions. The New York Times is reporting:

The Obama administration is moving toward reviving the military commission system for prosecuting Guantánamo detainees, which was a target of critics during the Bush administration, including Mr. Obama himself.(video via YouTube)

Obama Wants Gitmo Trials Delayed

Military judges will consider Wednesday whether to halt the Guantanamo war crimes trials after President Barack Obama ordered prosecutors to request a 120-day suspension during a review of the system used to try suspected terrorists. (Jan. 21)
